Situated on a sprawling wooded ridge at the confluence
of the Allegheny and Clarion rivers, Six Senses RiverStone Estate will mark the
next chapter in one of the region’s cultural and architectural treasures.
Marking the latest milestone in the brand’s thoughtful entry into the Americas
market, this picturesque country estate will echo the Six Senses ethos of
wellness and sustainability, while offering guests and owners a community for
connection and reflection
Located outside the quaint Western Pennsylvania town
of Foxburg, just 90 minutes north of Pittsburgh, the property is in close
proximity to three private airports and a quick getaway from Cleveland,
Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.
Anchored by a majestic three-story stone mansion
carefully restored by the estate’s former owner, the late Dr. Art Steffee, the
resort’s 77 new guest rooms will be woven into the contours of the 1,200-acre
estate, with over 50 miles of trails and 7 miles of riverfront, threading
together a rich heritage with a visionary masterplan. Forty branded residences
will provide the bespoke lifestyle of a private country home with the benefits
of a world-class service team and year-round adventures.
Neil Jacobs, CEO, Six Senses, which is part of IHG
Hotels & Resorts' Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, said, “Beyond memories,
guests want more purpose and a greater takeaway from their stay. We are very
thoughtful about the art, and often the science, of exceptional experiences
based on emotional hospitality. Six Senses RiverStone Estate will provide an
enchanting canvas for new layers of wellness programming, creative cuisine,
meaningful connections, and leaps of faith into new discoveries.”
Building a New Legacy
The story will begin at the property’s sprawling
13,000 square-foot stone mansion, first constructed in the 1820’s as a summer
home for the descendants of George Fox, after whom the nearby town of Foxburg
is named. The mansion will be further enhanced to serve as a centerpiece for
the property, alongside a Victorian carriage house designed by renowned
Philadelphia architect Frank Furness.
Guestrooms and cottages blend an off-grid vibe with
all the luxurious amenities for a sound night’s sleep, offering space and
seclusion whether under a canopy of trees or atop the riverbank. The branded
residences will echo similar warm, uncluttered, and sustainable living. While
the comforts are modern, the ethos remains slow life, to unwind and find time
for leisurely hiking, biking and foraging.
To foster guests’ creative spirit, Six Senses
RiverStone Estate will feature a dynamic art program, comprising a curated art
gallery and a collection of studios for an artist-in-residence program that
will be led by some of the world’s foremost thought leaders in multiple art
disciplines.
A Country Estate with a Wellness Focus
As the seasons unfold, so will the bespoke wellness
and food and beverage offerings at Six Senses RiverStone Estate.
The 16,000-square-foot Six Senses Spa will adopt a
high-tech, high-touch approach to wellness. The spa will be situated within the
restored stone walls of the Fox Family’s English Garden, established centuries
ago. Facilities for indoor and outdoor classes, including meditation,
stretching, yoga and Pilates, will be set among scenic views. As night falls,
the resort will take on a different energy, whether setting intentions under
the full moon or sipping a curated cocktail and tracing the stars in the sky with
an astronomer.
In the world of athletics, performance often comes
down to preparation and recovery. The 4,500-square-foot fitness center will be
equipped to provide a range of support to first timers and seasoned pros, from
injury prevention and muscle recovery to mental focus and motivation. Bordering
the old growth forest approximately 280 feet above the Allegheny River, a
25-meter active pool will welcome swimmers of all ages with a range of leisure
programming and relaxed energy.
Cuisine will emphasize local and organic produce and
game. Onsite farm to table dining will include a specialty restaurant, a
central courtyard with smaller tasting bars and the Orchard Alley pop-up
experience. With Eat with Six Senses, food is always as nutritious as it is
delicious, even when indulging in house-made ice cream or digging into a jar of
maple syrup produced onsite from the property’s 5,000+ maple trees.
Horses have played a central role throughout the
estate’s history. The equestrian center will house an 22,000 square-foot indoor
riding arena, 36 stalls with heated floors and quiet corners for equine therapy
programs. Residential owners will be able to board their horses year-round,
while guests and owners will also be able to access the facility’s offerings.
Beyond equine, the estate is home to a variety of
cows, sheep, goats, donkeys, and a chicken chalet, producing fresh eggs daily.
Partners with Purpose
Six Senses RiverStone Estate ownership is led by Saji
Daniel and Shannon McGauley Daniel and advised by Weitzman Associates. They
have assembled a world-class team of collaborators: architecture by Olson
Kundig and interiors by Michaelis Boyd and Charles & Co deepen the
connection to the heritage and landscape while incorporating an exciting new
vision for the future. RIOS, Biohabitats and Kimley-Horn will preserve and
enhance the landscape of forest, meadows, rolling hills and rivers.
Saji Daniel said, “Six Senses RiverStone Estate will
be a peaceful refuge for guests to experience mental, physical and spiritual
connection. We are stewards of the property for generations to come and share
in the Six Senses ethos of sustainability, nurturing and conserving land, and
revitalizing the Foxburg community. After spending time on this magical
property, we knew we needed to share it with the world.”
Six Senses RiverStone Estate also advances the brand’s
initial mainland U.S. presence with previously announced signings in Telluride,
Napa and
along the South
Carolina coast. Following the opening of Six
Senses La Sagesse in April, Six Senses Grand Bahama and Six Senses
Xala on the Pacific Coast of Mexico are also under development.
